Do you ever feel like you’ve lost your initial enthusiasm and passion for your career?

Let’s take a walk down memory lane when you were first starting out in your career… You may have been genuinely excited about what your future holds for you and what opportunities your new job can bring you! But gradually, as life happens, your stress levels increase with your ever-growing workload and it can become harder to hold onto that initial feeling.

The question you may be asking is how do I reignite my passion and feel inspired again? A career coach can help you find your passion again, contact Amelia here.

Rediscovering your career passion is something we all are confronted with at some point in our careers.  Careers aren’t always linear; they are usually a series of ups and downs and sometimes it may feel as though the downs go forever. The first step to rediscovering your passion is acknowledging that you need to rebuild your passion. With this awareness, you can start taking your first step in the direction of re-igniting the feelings you originally had for your work. This first step of becoming aware is vital, as many careers are derailed because of the lack of awareness of the issue. Your career coach Melbourne can help you gain this awareness, move through the issue and reclaim your passion. Contact Amelia Here.

So why is being passionate about your career valuable?

Researchers have conducted surveys and found the lack of passion can result in poor performance and motivation. The same survey showed that employers don’t believe that passion can be learned. This proves that when considering your career path you should discover what you are passionate about. Your career counsellor can help guide you through different avenues to find what you are truly passionate about. Find out more here.

Most of us have heard the saying “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Some may be sceptical, some may be believers, but when you’re passionate about what you do, work can be less of a chore and more of a piece to a fulfilling life. Whether you’re just starting to think about your career, feel stuck in a job that doesn’t bring you joy or looking to pivot your career, it’s never too late or too early to start pinpointing your passions.

How do you rediscover your passion?

Take time off

Taking time off work can be challenging especially if you are only starting out or have a huge workload, but even allowing a few days off you will feel re-energized. Think of it as a career reset. Take the time to explore things that you feel would ignite your enthusiasm for work again. Reevaluate and take note of what you have done – a sort of career planning too.

Ask yourself, where you are in your career; why are you there, where do you want to be and how will you get there? Questioning your motives, will make you aware of the track you are on in rediscovering your career passion.

Stay Curious

A way that your passion can be reignited is by constantly feeding yourself with new ideas, information, and news relating to your job. Many people find themselves feeling stuck in their careers due to not expanding their knowledge and constantly evolving. There is always something to learn, something that you can do much better than your peers or your competitors. Identify the areas in which others are doing better than you, and make it your mission to outperform them.

Be proactive and create an appetite for learning by staying on top of new research, asking probing questions and benchmarking the successful people whom you admire and network selectively. Essentially you are expanding your horizons which will keep you from feeling stagnant and bored.

Speak to a mentor

Mentors can help lead you on the right path to rediscovering your career passion. Chances are your mentor has at some point in time gone through the same thing and could point out the symptoms to you. By hearing your mentor's path to success, how they handle their ups and downs, and how they can guide you, might set you back on the right path.

Mix with like-minded people

Connecting with like-minded people can create positive energy and can lead on to rediscovering your passion. Listening and talking to people who are passionate about their careers, seeing how they light up, can be truly inspiring and extremely contagious.

By networking with these people, not only will their upbeat attitude rub off on you, but it will open up more possibilities through sharing, collaborating and participating in similar industry events and activities. Your career coach can help you connect with like-minded people. Find out more here.

Love what you do

Yes, it sounds cliche but a way to rediscover your passion is remembering why you started doing what you are now doing in the first place! Simple but effective. Take the time to think about which aspects of your job you truly enjoy; perhaps it’s meeting new people, completing a project or having the freedom to be creative.

By identifying what drives you to succeed you will be able to figure out if your current career is enhancing or diminishing your passion.  If your current employee isn’t providing you with the spark you need, your career coach can help you find an organisation or environment that does so that you can thrive and make a career out of the things you love to do. So if you’re struggling to find your passion, even after trying what feels like doing everything, it is only human and natural for our career journey to have ups and downs. Life is about constantly learning, so continue to rediscover and stay flexible to the change that will continue to come. It is about building that capability to see what is purposeful in your life and knowing how to work towards improving your career by rediscovering your passions.
